J. B. Durão
J. B. DURÃO was born in Lisbon, Portugal.
Self taught painter, the sea has always been a present theme in his work whether by specific references or by the way he draws the city’s contours. Thematic related to the ancient Lisbon or urban transports result in his paintings with great beauty, harmony expression and movement, which has established his uniqueness in the portuguese Naïf painting.
Since 1989, he has participated in many collective exhibitions in Portugal and abroad, such as in Spain and Switzerland (1991) where he was awarded the Golden Cup in the 20th Edition of the Europe Prize at Kasper Gallery. In 1993, he got an Honourable Mention for his 1st Contest “NAIF” – Azeite da CEE (CEE Olive Oil)_ in Lisbon. He also got 8 Honourable mentions in the several editions of the “Casino Estoril Art Naïf International Exhibition”, Portugal, the latter in 2008.
J B Durão paints only in his free time, which does not allow him to respond to the countless solicitations for his work from galleries and collectors.
He has 6 litographies by G.S. Rodrigues, 2 of which on Expo 98, and his work is held in many private collections in Portugal and in “Ilhavo Regional and Maritime Museum” and “Guimarães Naïf Museum”.
