Description
Garden scene manuscript illumination in the Bengal style of the Mughal Empire (1526-1857). Graphic works from this empire and period of time are very clearly derived from the Persian miniatures, adapted to new tastes and cultures but equal in mastery and refinement. Framed in a fashion that allows the back of the page to be seen, with writings in either Persian or Arabic, as Persian was the official Mughal Court language and Arabic was the official language for Sunni and Din-i Ilahi religious ceremonies.
