- CASCAIS GALLERY - Jorge Valdivia Painting Exhibition

Jorge Valdivia was born in Peru and has been living in Germany for over three decades. Since a very young age he became interested in painting, and has always dedicated himself professionally to this activity. He evolved as artist in a permanente searching for his own expression, and reached a quality level which allowed him to enter the UNESCO International Association of Plastic Arts, located in Paris.

Ricardo Gongález Vigil, writer, intelectual, and art expert from Peru, adessed to Jorge Valdivia the following words:

Privileged spaces of light enhanced by the splendour of the things and beings that inhabit them (and beauty was defined as the splendour of contemplated form, in those amazing 14th to 17th centuries, in which intense pictorial language arose: linen canvasses, perspective, pure drawing, vibrant oil colourings and many others), each work of Jorge Valdivia constitutes a true celebration of art.

On one hand, he reveals the magic and mystery of his shapely dames with long and curvaceous necks, in expressive conjugation with birds of rare beauty, resulting in an enchanting and captive aesthetic approach, forming myriads of potential chants. On the other hand, he appropriates and re-elaborates, with modern shades and the creative mark of an entirely new vision, the depiction of forms from the 14th to 17th centuries, in particular the gracious “dames” of the Italian and Flemish masters, as well as the symbolic faun of Jan van Eyck, Botticelli, Raphael, El Bosco and Durero.

The great peruvian poet Carlos Germán Belli classified as "hospitable stanzas” the metric combinations of the Italian and Provencal poets which he remade in his writings, in a very personal style, paying tribute to the poetic language of the 12th to 17th centuries. So could the great peruvian painter Jorge Valdivia claim that, in his case, his paintings act as “hospitable depictions” of the abovementioned centuries (14th to 17th).

Jorge Valdivia shares with Carlos Belli the virtuosity of the resources he uses (mastery of painting, spatial disposition, chromatic scale, etc.) and the intensity of the experience with which his works exceed the mimetic relation and develop another dimension, visionary and with dreamlike traces; “Iluminaciones”, as Rimbaud would define them.
