Luiza Caetano was born in Mafra, Portugal in 1946.
Her passion for art led her to attend sculpture and painting courses. In 1987, she began her artistic career exhibiting at the Casino Estoril Gallery, Portugal and from then on she has received invitations to exhibit her work in Portugal and abroad.
Joining painting and travel, she tried to consolidate her knowledge by means of direct contact with poets and artists of the countries she went to and by reflecting on the great master works held in the main world museums. Her strong motivation to go on with her artistic career was based on these two arguments. Her works on personality, life and work of Fernando Pessoa witness this remarkable ability.
She is, indeed, one of the most internationally recognised Portuguese Naïf Painters.
She has participated in several collective exhibitions in Portugal, Spain, France, Germany, Slovakia, USA, Luxembourg, Cabo Verde Islands, Macau, Switzerland, Brazil, Belgium and Turkey, and had her first individual show in 1996, Portugal, and later Belgium, Brazil and Italy. Her work is held in countless private and public collections.
The artistic quality recognition of her work has provide her with several distinctions and Honourable Mentions; in 1996, the 1st Prize “Um Arquipélago de Todas as Cores” Portuguese Embassy in Cabo Verde Islands, in 1997, awarded the 1st Prize at the “Casino Estoril Gallery” Portugal, in 2003, the 1st Prize “Artenatal”, Nova Friburgo, Brazil and in 2005, the 3rd Prize at the “I International Contest of Naïf Painting", Madrid.
